WHAT IS GES?

Geothermal resources are the heat of the earth and are hot water, steam and gases containing chemicals formed by the heat accumulated in various depths of the earth’s crust. Geothermal energy includes all kinds of direct or indirect utilization of geothermal resources. Geothermal energy is a new, renewable, sustainable, inexhaustible, cheap, reliable, environmentally friendly, domestic and green energy type. Geothermal Power Plants (GPP) are power plants that generate electricity by utilizing the heat energy of underground resources. GEPP directly utilizes thermal energy from underground sources. The earth’s core is a practically inexhaustible source of energy. GEPPs are also a clean energy source with zero pollutant impact if appropriate technologies are used.

Our country is among the richest countries in the world in terms of GEPP-geothermal-electricity potential. In Turkey, there are around 1000 hot and mineralized water sources and well points from which geothermal fluids are extracted. GEPPs are high enthalpy (suitable for electricity generation) power plants in our country and are located especially in Western Anatolia, where the energy demand is high, thus preventing transportation losses in a sense.
