DIFFERENT SERVICES THAT CAN BE PROVIDED OVER TEİAŞ OPGW SYSTEMS

OPGW stands for Optical Ground Wire. The ground wire going over the electrical networks is used for communication purposes. For this reason, there is a fiber optic cable in the specially produced cable and communication is provided over this optical cable.

TEİAŞ installs OPGW cables on 154 kV and above main carrier network. These cables are used by TEİAŞ for communication of RTU and telecontrol systems. However, this is not the only limitation of the use of this cable.

TEİAŞ fiber optic cable network is one of the most important inter-city backhaul fiber optic networks in Turkey. Due to the architecture of TEİAŞ, these cables are available between all cities and thus serve Turkey’s communication infrastructure, either on their own or in combination with other service providers’ networks.

TEİAŞ leases the OPGW lines to service providers, enabling high bandwidth for GSM and fixed line users. This cable is used for SDH technology and can also be used for MPLS-TP, WDM, etc.

Due to the geographical spread of TEİAŞ OPGW network, it is one of the ideal carriers to provide broadband services throughout Turkey.

TEİAŞ leased its fiber optic cable routes to service providers through a tender held on November 11, 2011 and supported the expansion of broadband access across Turkey through this infrastructure.

In addition to fiber optic cables, TEİAŞ also uses power cables for information transmission. The technology used for this purpose is called Power Line Carrier (PLC). Due to the limited bandwidth obtained with PLC technique, this technique is only used for line protection and communication between transformers.
