WHAT IS TELEMETRY?
WHAT IS REMOTE METER READING (TELEMETRY)?
Telemetry is the reading and processing of meter information (natural gas, electricity, water…) in today’s developed cities or at remote locations from city centers. Telemetry cannot be defined only as reading meter information and completing billing transactions. Today, it is of great importance to use the existing resources in the most efficient way. Those who can collect and manage the information they have in the shortest time in the right ways have an advantage over their competitors and save money.
The word “measurement” simply means one word “money”. Whatever value you measure, there is necessarily a monetary value. If you are not measuring with the right techniques or if you are unable to convert the values resulting from the measurement into monetary value in the right way, one of the parties to the measurement is harmed. Today, minimizing losses has become the sine qua non of competition.
Telemetry provides you with the opportunity to transfer and process the information obtained from measurement devices and control devices located at many points inside or outside the city to the center. The right measurement devices, the right communication infrastructure and the right central software help you minimize losses and leakages in your network and make short-medium-long term consumption forecasts. It is also possible to make very successful tariff applications thanks to these smart systems. Today’s computer technology provides the chance to achieve these forecasts with small errors of 3% thanks to semi-intelligent software. But this is not possible without the right infrastructure.
Although telemetry investment costs may seem quite high at first glance, it has become a must for distribution companies due to the financial advantage it provides you in terms of reading times, its contribution to reducing losses and leakages, and helping you get good prices in advance thanks to consumption value estimates.
